Jill Scott's mom Joyce Scott gave birth to Jill on April 4, 1972, located in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The family was dominated by her grandmother, and she was an only child. Scott attended an institution called the Philadelphia High School for Girls followed by Temple University after graduating. Scott was a student in secondary school while also working at two different job. Her goal was to be an instructor of English at a secondary school. After three years of being teacher's assistant and studying the possibility of becoming a high school English teacher came to a halt. Being a poet, she began performing in poetry performances live. Later, she joined forces with Amir Quest Thompson (of The Roots) to form the group. You Got Me, their collaboration song, was composed by the duo. In an Roots performance, she was spotted in the spotlight as an artist. Her subsequent collaborations included Eric Benet Will Smith Common. In the Canada tour of The Broadway musical Rent She gained invaluable experience performing. The label signed her as its first artist.
